Standard Operating Procedures Manual

Dear Colleagues,

The core value of the Office of Student Services is “service.” The Office of Student Services is committed to the special education services rendered to the students in Cambridge Public Schools and to providing timely and high-quality service to our Teams, staff, and school leaders. It is our belief that if our office creates the structures, conditions, and supports for our staff, then our students will be afforded a “rigorous, joyful and culturally responsive” learning experience that will lead to positive school outcomes.

Our office has developed a Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOPM) for our Teams, which provides guidance on policies and procedures to ensure a responsive inclusive environment based on each student’s individual needs.  This guide is not meant to prevent students from receiving necessary services, but as a framework that brings coherence and cohesion to our ongoing work to better serve students with disabilities in Cambridge City.

The SOPM is a “living document” that will continually be updated to remain current and comprehensive.  To ensure fidelity with the law, the SOPM references State and Federal regulations, including:

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Massachusetts General Laws ch.71 B, et seq., and Special Education Regulations 603 CMR 28.00 et. seq., Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 2004, and 34 CFR 300 et. seq. Section 504 The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended)

As always, we welcome your feedback. If you have any recommendations or concerns, please contact your OSS Coordinator.  Your input is essential to ensuring that students receive the full educational benefit of the district’s programs, policies, and procedures.

Sincerely,

Office of Student Services
