    Farewell message to CPS staff

    Dear Friends,

Over the past ten days, as I have attended all of the graduation and moving on ceremonies in our schools, I have started to experience a sense of loss.  It's not exactly regret or sadness, but rather a feeling of letting go that inevitably accompanies change.  I guess it's true that in life whenever there is change, something must disappear in order to make space for something new.  Maybe that's why people always talk about mixed feelings at times like this.

There is so much I truly love about Cambridge Public Schools, most of which has to do with the people I have met and worked with during my seven years in the city.  It has been my great good fortune to see up close and personal the incredible work you do with the kids in our schools.  The best part of my job is that I have had the privilege of watching so many exceptional professionals at work with our students, whether they are 3 years old or 18.  I am going to miss the daily contact.  On top of that, many of you have become friends, human beings with whom I have been able to share life stories, not just educational ones.  These memories will endure and, I am sure, grow over the years and establish a special place of residence in my heart and mind.

Thank you for letting me in--to your classrooms, your offices, your schools, your community, and to your lives.  It has been my sincere honor to serve alongside every one of you.  As I prepare for my next life adventure, I want you to know that I will always look back at my time in CPS with fondness and gratitude.  The families of this city are so fortunate to have people like you looking after their children.  May you find peace, happiness and satisfaction in everything you do.
