The 3- to 5-year-old program at Tobin Montessori follows the unique Montessori Program, where children spend three years in the same class with the same teacher in order to foster maturity and independence. By age 5, children have experienced the spiral Montessori curriculum. They use concrete, self-correcting materials to develop abstract concepts by exploration in math, literacy, geography, social studies, science, practical life, sensorial exploration, art, music, and physical education.

As part of the Tobin Montessori School, the school day goes from 7:55AM to 1:55PM. However, families may choose to pick up their 3-year-old at 11AM. Children’s House students automatically continue at the Tobin Montessori School through Grade 5. This means that children are not eligible to re-enter the Kindergarten lottery while enrolled at Tobin Montessori – they must submit a transfer request if they wish to change schools at age 5. Because the class sizes for Children’s House mirror the sizes of CPS kindergartens, students must be toilet trained on the first day of school.

The unique Montessori method uses concrete, self-correcting materials that develop abstract concepts through exploration in math, literacy, geography, social studies, science, practical life, sensorial exploration, art, music, and physical education.

Children’s House students spend three years in the same class with the same teacher as their maturity and independence is nurtured. By age 5, children have experienced the spiral Montessori curriculum.

tobin_3.pngThe age of entry for Tobin Montessori is 3 years old. Four year olds who are not eligible for Junior Kindergarten due to their birth month may submit an application to Tobin Montessori during October or January. However, there will be very few or no seats available at this age level.

Siblings (brothers or sisters) of current Tobin Montessori students receive priority in school assignment to the Children’s House program. In addition, as a Cambridge public elementary school, school assignments must be balanced for SES as measured by the percentage of students who do and do not qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced Price Meals program.
