Cambridge
School Volunteers (CSV) will be celebrating its commitment to the
academic success of Cambridge Public School students at a special event,
CSV Now! on Thursday, March 15, 2012, from 6 - 8PM at Genzyme, a Sanofi Company, 500 Kendall Street, in Cambridge.
Since
1966, CSV has played a pivotal role in its mission, with more than
25,000 volunteers participating in a variety of elementary and high
school programs, and logging in more than 1.5 million hours of volunteer
time during its 46-year history. It is estimated that close to 70
percent of all public school students have been impacted by a CSV
volunteer.
CSV’s event will honor its special KeyPal program
partners: Draper Laboratory, IBM and the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. For the past eighteen years, this remarkable program has
matched fifth and sixth graders from the Kennedy-Longfellow School with
employees from Draper, MIT, and IBM for a year-long exchange of e-mails
focusing on e-mentoring, technology, writing and awareness of career
options. Students and mentors meet face-to-face four times during the
school year as well, both at the school and the workplace.
CSV
will also be featuring Amy Domini, CEO and founder of Domini Social
Investments. Since the 1980’s, Domini has advocated the principle of
socially responsible investing. The idea is now widely recognized as
helping to achieve certain financial and social goals, not the least of
which is community investing.
The program will include
cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction. The CRLS Jazz Ensemble
will provide music. Monies raised will enable CSV to continue its many
successful programs as well as develop new ones. For more information on
attending the March 15 event, contact CSV at 617.349.6794 or order tickets online.
