Cambridge School Committee and Cambridge Education Association Reach Three-Year Agreement
Posted on 12/06/2023

Dear CPS Community:

We are pleased to share that the Cambridge School Committee and the Cambridge Education Association (CEA) Units A&B reached a tentative agreement on November 8 on a three-year (2023-2026) contract, which was ratified by the CEA on December 1 and by the School Committee on December 5. The agreement aligns expectations and compensation, while prioritizing the learning needs of our students.

For more than a year the Cambridge School Committee and CEA have dedicated time and energy to this important process to come to agreement on structures to ensure our students and educators have the conditions they need to reach their full potential. Through this contract, we take significant steps forward towards solutions that the administration and educators have sought for many years, including more instructional time for elementary and upper school students, additional collaboration time for educators, and a meaningful increase in educator salaries.

Below are some highlights of the agreement:

Increased Salaries: This contract covers a three-year period from September 1, 2023 through August 31, 2026. Over the three year period teacher salaries will increase by 17.25%, including:

  • Annual salary increases in the form of cost-of-living adjustments of 2.5%, 3%, and 3.5% during the three years of the contract for all teachers.
  • An additional 8.25% for the additional school and work time.
  • Over the course of the contract, the CPS teacher annual salary is projected to increase from the current average of $100,474 to $118,938.

Student Learning Time: In Kindergarten through grade 8, CPS has had one of the shortest school days in Massachusetts.

  • The contract will add 30 minutes to the school day four days per week in the elementary and upper schools, beginning in fall 2024 as well as collaboration time for educators.
  • The contract will add an additional five minutes to the school day for students in grades 9 through 12 and provide additional out of school time for student support sessions and educator collaboration, beginning in fall 2024.

We look forward to our continued collaboration as we implement this milestone agreement. We truly value our educators and their commitment and devotion to our students and their success. We thank the CPS community for their continued support.

Sincerely,
