Dear OSS Community:
This week’s communication is to provide you with more information about the student remote learning plans. The weekly remote learning plan provides parents/caregivers with a schedule of when and how their child’s services will be delivered. Guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Early and Secondary Education states that the IEP does not need to be changed for students to receive remote services. The plan includes:
- Supports and resources for independent learning that can include academic content and homework packets and project-based learning opportunities, with the accommodations your child needs.
- Instruction and services that can be delivered remotely in whole group and small group settings or individually. Instruction and services can be provided by using online programs, television or the telephone.
Attached is an example of the student remote learning plan you receive each week from your child’s case manager. Here you will find the link for the blank student remote learning plan. In addition, below you will find a brief overview of each section:
- Part I reflects the week beginning and ending of the student remote learning plan.
- Part 2 captures your child’s information (i.e. name, student identification number, current enrolled school, and date your child’s remote services began).
- Part 3 includes language from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding remote learning plans. The purpose of this plan is to communicate how educational opportunities and services will be delivered during the COVID-19 emergency. Please note: Special education services for your student will look different during this period of national and state public health emergency.
- Part 4 are the resources and supports you can expect from your child’s general and special educators, as well as his/her/their related service providers. Examples of this may include: weekly communication, office hours, feedback on assignments, delivery of instruction.
- Part 5 reflects the schedule of remote learning opportunities as outlined on your child’s Grid B service delivery grid. These are services that occur in the general education classroom.
- Part 6 reflects the schedule of remote learning opportunities as outlined on your child’s Grid c service delivery grid. These are services that occur outside of the general education classroom.
- Part 7 lists the individuals who provide direct services to your child. Each person’s name, title, and email address is listed.
As always, if you have additional questions or concerns, please contact your child’s case manager.
Best,
Alexis Morgan
