Dear CPS Community,
I am writing with the unfortunate news that due to a rise in COVID-19 cases and the CPS metrics,
CPS will continue in remote learning district-wide until at least January 4. This decision was made in consultation with the Cambridge Public Health Department in alignment with CPS’s
COVID-19 metrics.
Based on the
Cambridge Public Health Department’s 4PM update today, one of our metrics, the 7-day average of daily new cases per 100,000, has now exceeded the threshold of 25 yesterday and today. (The CPS dashboard is in the process of updating). In order to re-open for in-person learning, we need to be
below the threshold for two metrics for seven consecutive days, which will not be possible before the winter break begins on Thursday the 24th.
I know that news of the extended remote learning period is disappointing for many in-person learners, staff, and families. Please know that we are working to make the best decisions possible with the latest public health data we have available.
In the meantime, CPS will continue to plan for future expansions of in-person learning for the second semester. This will allow us to implement in-person learning when the public health conditions permit it. Please continue to share your perspective through our
family feedback sessions, student and
family surveys, and staff feedback sessions, which provide us with valuable information as we develop plans for the second semester. We will share more information later this week about emerging plans. All families will be asked to submit an enrollment form in early January about their second semester plans.
Sincerely,
Kenneth N. Salim, Ed.D.
