Fiscal Year 2025

After several months of strategic planning, engagement, and refinement, the School Committee voted on April 2, 2024 to adopt the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget (see details), which incorporates a historic increase of $23.25 million. The budget includes key investments in the new elementary literacy curriculum, Core Knowledge Language Arts or CKLA, academic supports to address achievement gaps for Black/African American students and students with disabilities, strategies to better serve students with increased needs, including newcomers and English learners, student success plans, professional learning, including the Educator Pathway Program, and family and community engagement.

Budget Video Series: Key Investments

In an effort to highlight key investments outlined in Superintendent Greer’s proposed budget, we have crafted a three-part video series. These videos spotlight the Educator Pathway Program, the new Elementary English Language Arts curriculum, and the additional priorities the district has allocated funding.

Educator Pathway Program with Rasheeda Abdul-Mussawir
The Educator Pathway Program (EPP) provides current CPS teachers and paraprofessionals the opportunity to be awarded a full scholarship to pursue secondary education in either Special Education at Cambridge College or English as a Second Language at Lesley University. Led by Human Resources, EPP represents the district’s deep commitment to retaining our educators and offering pathways for growth as represented in objective 3 of our District Plan, Implement Effective Staff Learning and Support.

Elementary Literacy Curriculum with Emily Bryan
In 2024-2025, for the first time ever, Cambridge Public Schools will implement an aligned literacy curriculum in all of the district’s elementary schools from first to fifth grade. This investment marks a critical step towards closing the persistent achievement gaps that exist between student groups and reinforces our commitment to providing a top tier educational experience to all.

After a thorough selection process involving a cross-section of educators, coaches, administrators, and interdisciplinary leaders, the district is confident that the new 2nd Edition Core Knowledge Language Arts or CKLA curriculum provides the best opportunity for rigorous, research-based, engaging instruction that will support each of our students in meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations, particularly those who are furthest from justice.

District Priorities Overview with Superintendent Greer
Following engagement sessions with various stakeholder groups, Cambridge Public Schools is proud to present a proposed budget representative of community feedback. In constructing this year’s budget, the district identified five key priority areas to devote significant resources to, both in the form of new and continued investments.

The priorities are as outlined below…

  1. Implement an aligned literacy curriculum to address achievement gaps and move the district closer to reading proficiency by 3rd grade for all students;
  2. Adopt a new curriculum to support new multilingual learners in their grade-level instruction and language development;
  3. Implement the district’s Student Success Planning Pilot, which pairs students with a navigator to guide students in utilizing the various resources throughout their academic journey;
  4. Invest in educators through the continuation of the Educator Pathway Program and funding of testing for DESE licensure; and
  5. Continued investments in Family & Community engagement, including a Family & Community Advisory Committee.
