Dear CPS community -
You may have seen the news that the state Commissioner of Education is requiring that all districts in Massachusetts offer full-time, in-person learning this spring. Full-time remote learning will continue to be available for all families this school year.
In-person learning will be full days, five days a week:
- Elementary schools start Monday, April 5.
- Current in-person learners: No action needed. Your student(s) will be automatically included in the full-day, five days a week schedule.
- Current remote learners: You will receive a follow up message with a form to select in-person learning for your student. If we do not hear from you, your student(s) will continue in remote learning.
- Upper schools start Wednesday, April 28.
- All families will receive a follow up message with a form to select in-person learning for your student. If we do not hear from you, your student will continue in their current instruction mode.
- High school details have not yet been set by the state. We will share more information when details become available.
CPS already has important COVID-19 safety measures in place to support this transition, including our testing system for students and staff, robust contact tracing and quarantine protocols, and established infection control teams at each school which will continue.
I want to acknowledge that these new changes, especially over such a short period of time, will require a lot of work by our school leaders and staff to once again change their schedules and plans. We just expanded in-person learning last week, and our students and educators are just getting into these new routines. This continual change can be incredibly stressful and challenging for our educators and staff.
We thank our school staff for their flexibility, resilience, and creativity to adapt. We ask that CPS families be patient with our schools and staff as they plan for this next phase of in-person learning while also supporting both in-person and remote learners.
Families will receive followup information on next steps. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Sincerely,
Kenneth N. Salim, Ed.D.
Superintendent
