Greetings CPS Community…
I hope you had a restful weekend and are looking forward to summer. We have just 8 more days of school left!
Last week, we celebrated the Class of 2023 at the
CRLS and HSEP graduation ceremonies. We could really feel the pride and joy of our families and school community as our graduates crossed the stage, marking the start of their next chapter. Some of our other schools have
graduations and moving on ceremonies scheduled for the next two weeks. This is such an exciting time for our students, and I am so proud of all they have accomplished and persevered through this school year.
Our Office of Academics & Schools presented the Teaching and Learning Framework to the School Committee last Tuesday. The framework, which aligns with our District Plan and is one of our Strategic Initiatives, will provide coherence and consistency in every student’s learning experiences and set high expectations for all students. We look forward to sharing more with you as implementation begins next school year.
Thank you to everyone who attended our first few
Coffee Hour sessions last week. I look forward to meeting with more of you this week and next. Please come share your thoughts, questions, and concerns so we can work toward best supporting our students.
Please note that there is
no school next Monday, June 19, in honor of Juneteenth. In addition, next Tuesday, June 20, will be the last edition of the Greer Gazette for this school year.

Math Tutoring for Fourth and Eighth Graders Next School Year
This fall, the state is launching a new program to provide math tutoring to students in grades 4-8. Tutoring services will be:
Job Opportunity with the Cambridge Police Cadet Program
The Cambridge Police Department is looking for applicants for its next Cadet class, which is scheduled to begin this fall. The program is designed for people with an interest in serving the community and potentially pursuing a career in policing.
- Anyone ages 18-23 who lives in Cambridge is eligible.
- Cadets receive competitive hourly wage, 37.5 hours/week, strong benefits, and vacation time.
- The deadline to apply is Friday, June 30.

Cambridge Preschool Program Coming in SY24-25
The Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP) is a publicly-funded program and a joint partnership between the City of Cambridge, the Department of Human Service Programs, and Cambridge Public Schools.

It will provide free preschool to the families of all 4-year-olds and some 3-year-olds.

CPP will replace our current Junior Kindergarten-Kindergarten Lottery for the 2024-2025 School Year.

A child is eligible if they live in Cambridge and are:

4 years old byAugust 31, 2024 for 4-year-old programs; or
-
3 years old byAugust 31, 2024 for 3-year-old programs (please note there will be limited seats for 3-year-olds and there may be additional eligibility requirements)

The single, centralized online application will open in winter 2023/2024.

RSTA Health Assisting Pinning Ceremony
On Friday, June 2, 19 Health Assisting students at CRLS earned their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) pin. They have completed a rigorous program of study that included 50 hours of clinical experience through our partnership with Sancta Maria Assisted Living. All of the CNA students have now been placed into a cooperative education experience with the assistance of Ms. Reese. Families, educators, Dr. Greer, and Mayor Siddiqui were overjoyed to celebrate their accomplishments! Congratulations!
Out-of-This-World Experience
Students at the Cambridge Street Upper School spoke with outer space last month! Astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS) explained their work and how it helps us here on Earth. Students got to ask questions while astronauts floated around due to lower levels of gravity on the ISS.
Classroom Transforms into a Bird Museum
Ms. Russell's 1st grade class at the Haggerty School has spent the last few months learning about birds in Science. Students studied bird habitats, beaks, feet, feathers, and eggs, observed live birds by watching Live Eagle cameras around the country, and took nature walks around the neighborhood and at Fresh Pond. Students also enjoyed making bird nests out of various materials and sculpting bird feet with clay.
To bring all their hard work and learning together, they transformed their classroom into a Bird Museum! Students became experts in a certain topic about birds and they taught their parents, families, and staff about birds. Well done!
