Dear CPS Community:
Following a comprehensive search process, we are delighted to announce that Alicia Bairos has been named Cambridge Public Schools’ permanent Director of Safety & Security. Ms. Bairos previously was employed by the Cambridge Police Department in a civilian capacity and joined the CPS Safety Department in 2015. After being promoted to Safety Supervisor, she was asked to serve as the Interim Director of Safety in the spring of 2022. Since that time she has led her department effectively, helping to advance the district’s strategic objective around cultivating a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff.
Ms. Bairos brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and institutional knowledge. She will continue to lead the Safety Department in fostering learning environments that are grounded in engagement and restorative practices and engage with the district’s public safety partners to ensure that we are prepared to respond quickly and seamlessly to emergency situations. Ms. Bairos will continue to report to Chief Operating Officer David Murphy while providing the effective and sound counsel upon which school leaders across CPS have come to rely.
Please join us in congratulating CRLS alumnus Ms. Bairos on her appointment to the position of Director of Safety & Security for the Cambridge Public Schools.
Sincerely,
Dr. Victoria L. Greer, Superintendent
