Cambridge Public Schools Invests $300,000 in New Budget for Educators to Pursue Secondary Education with Full Scholarship

Thirty Teachers & Paraprofessionals Selected for District-Designed Career Pathway Program

Cambridge Public Schools (CPS) is proud to share that 30 educators have been chosen to participate in the second cohort of the district’s Educator Pathway Program (EPP), which aims to celebrate, grow, and cultivate CPS educators. This group will join the 30 educators who were selected in the program’s inaugural year. Participants, who include teachers and paraprofessionals, are awarded a full scholarship to pursue secondary education in English as a Second Language at Lesley University or Special Education at Cambridge College. On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the Cambridge City Council passed the district’s $268 million budget, which includes a nearly $300,000 investment in EPP.

“We are pleased to be able to remove the financial barrier for obtaining a Master's Degree in Education or teaching licensures for these educators,” said CPS Chief Talent Officer Corey Dotson. “Each has demonstrated a strong commitment to our students, and we look forward to witnessing their growth as educators in Cambridge for many years to come.”

CPS is one of a few school districts in Massachusetts to fully fund a Master’s Degree for educators through the EPP, which is part of a strategic effort to recruit and retain a significant number of effective educators who represent the diversity in the school community. Participants must commit to working in CPS for two years upon completion of the program.

Lesley University’s Director of Program Development Marianne Adams said “educators in Cambridge, some of whom had teaching licenses or other careers in their home country, have the ability to advance their careers while diversifying the Cambridge Public School workforce, creating a more diverse learning environment for all CPS children.”

The EPP is the result of a collaboration between CPS’s Human Resources Department, the Superintendent’s office, and the Cambridge School Committee.
