The Green Hero Award given every month is a program of the Cambridge Green Schools Initiative (CGSI), and the honor is given to individuals or groups who are making a significant contribution or impact towards environmental sustainability in the Cambridge Public School District. The honor is given by the school department’s Office for Sustainability.
The Green Hero honor for the month of November 2012 goes to Joe Lombardo, HVAC Supervisor for the Cambridge Public School Department. Joe works in the Facilities Department and is out working in all the schools every day. He works tirelessly on behalf of all building occupants to make sure classrooms and offices are as comfortable as possible, overseeing the mechanics of our energy systems, including heating and cooling.
“Joe works very hard to keep our systems strong and efficient. He provides excellent ideas, knowledge, and input at our meetings as we develop project proposals for energy-efficiency upgrades. It’s an honor to work with him and to learn from him,” said Kristen von Hoffmann, Sustainability Manager for the Cambridge Public School District. Specifically, Joe goes takes care of all the automation, heating and cooling for the seasons and is constantly on call. He has been a part of recent energy-efficiency projects for the schools, working closely with the schools’ Sustainability Manager, providing valuable input on what systems need to be fixed and how to upgrade automation to ensure that we save energy and reduce our carbon footprint. Congratulations, Joe!
