The second goal is to engage school building occupants in sustainable practices, including students, teachers, families, staff, administrators, custodians, and visitors. This requires behavioral changes that support daily sustainable practices in the PFEWG™ categories of Products, Food, Energy, Waste, and Greenspace, in all classroom and office spaces, overall operations, and daily actions.
The Cambridge Green Schools Initiative (CGSI) is a program designed to engage, educate, and inspire the school community in the sustainability effort at large. Key components of the implementation of this goal include program events, materials distribution, and tasks managed by the sustainability manager, such as gathering existing sustainability data from each school and hearing principals’ personal sustainability goals for their schools, communications with school building occupants through a weekly sustainability email, and publishing a district sustainability website to serve as a platform for district resources.
